Would you give up your seat for a child to dream? Would you be willing to put work aside for a moment to give someone else the chance to imagine their future, even if it brought you no immediate return?
During our World Literacy Day event at Elixir Audits, a few young students took turns sitting confidently at the Managing Partner’s desk. They opened their books, leaned back in his chair, and began to read aloud as if they were running the office.
Around them, the room was quiet, but something meaningful was taking place. These children were not pretending; they were imagining. They were seeing themselves as future leaders and decision-makers. And all it took was a book, a chair, and someone willing to give them space to dream.
Creating Space for Imagination
Our literacy initiative began with a simple goal: to collect 500 books for children across Ghana. Through the generosity of our team, clients, and friends, we gathered close to600 books, which were later donated to schools across the country.
The event went far beyond book collection. Five themed reading stations filled our offices with laughter and discovery. Students explored Ghanaian and West African stories, world adventures, nature tales, and poetry they created themselves. For many, it was their first time in a professional environment, a chance to picture themselves in future roles and believe they belong there.
If you have ever led others, you know that exposure creates confidence. Giving young people access to new spaces and ideas helps them see what is possible. It also helps us, as leaders, remember why opportunity matters in the first place.
Why Access Matters
Across Ghana, many children still lack access to books and learning materials. Literacy is not just about reading and writing. It is a foundation for opportunity. A child who reads can imagine, question, and shape their future.
When organizations invest in education, they help build a stronger nation. Access to learning supports confidence, drives innovation, and strengthens the human capital that fuels progress.
Purpose as Leadership
AtElixir Audits, we believe leadership is measured by how we serve others. Our work inaudit and assurance, tax advisory, andbusiness consultingis guided by precision, trust, and integrity. The same values guide our commitment to community development.
Earlier this year, we supported a local school with water filtration systems onWorld Water Dayand partnered with theBuzstopboysonWorld Environment and World Ocean Dayfor a community clean-up activity. Together with our literacy drive, these efforts reflect our belief that purpose and performance belong together.
A Reflection for Leaders
Leadership is not about holding onto influence. It is about using it to empower others. When children sat at the Managing Partner’s desk, it reminded us that leadership can be shared and that every opportunity we create today can inspire a brighter tomorrow.
If you are in a position to lead, remember this: when you invest in the next generation, you are cultivating the very talent that will sustain your organization and move your industry forward. The leaders who create opportunities for others are the ones who secure the future for their people, their businesses, and their country.
Every leader has influence. The question is: How will you use yours to create opportunity for others?
