What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. Some are needed for a site to work at all. Others record how a site is used, so that whoever runs it can see which pages are worth keeping.
This site uses few of them, and none that follow you across other websites.
Which ones we use
| Type | What it does | Can you refuse it |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the site working: remembering that you have answered the cookie banner, and holding form entries while you complete them. | No. Without these the site does not function. |
| Analytics | Counts visits and shows which pages are read, in aggregate. We use it to decide what to write next. | Yes, and it is off unless you accept it. |
The Financial Health Check
Worth stating plainly because people ask. Your answers to the Health Check are held in your browser while you complete it and are not transmitted to us. Nothing is sent unless you enter your email address and ask for the report.
The same is true of the tax calculator. Figures you type in stay on your device.
How to control them
You can accept or decline non-essential cookies when you first arrive, and change your mind at any time through your browser settings.
Every major browser lets you see what has been stored, delete it, and block future cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of this site working, in particular the forms.
